A
Million Little Pieces by
James Frey has maintained its lead on bestseller
lists by stirring up a bit of controversy.
An Oprah Book Club selection, the memoir
billed as nonfiction has been proven to
contain a few fictionalized passages. But
after nearly two years on and off bestseller
lists, the new controversy has only proved
a catalyst to more sales.
When he was twenty three years old, Frey
spent six weeks in rehab for a drug and
alcohol addiction. The book is a story of

called My Friend Leonard. |

Memoirs
of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
has been out in print since fall of 1997.
Its resurgence on the bestseller lists is
due to its screen adaptation and recent
release. The Cinderella story of a Japanese
geisha and the life led by these secretive
and legendary women sold well when it was
originally released.
Golden’s book is based on years of
research with a geisha and advanced degrees
in Japanese art and history. The story is
rich in detail and subtle emotional nuances
that only the Japanese culture can conceive.
This is a beautiful story of the artisans
so often misunderstood by Westerners. |
